Google Sync and Outlook 2010

For Outlook users, Google Calendar Sync provides a superb way to view your calendar from any computer with internet access as well as a way to allow selected others to be able to view and even edit your calendar. I had written about the topic in this post.

The only problem is that those who have upgraded to Outlook 2010 found that Google Calendar Sync did not work with that version. That problem is no more. If you have Outlook 2010, read this post from Official GMail Blog which explains the solution.

I have not tried it myself (still running Outlook 2007), but from what I read, the answer is yes. Take a look at this.

Windows 7 x64 (ultimate) +
Outlook 2010 x32(office pro)+
Google Calendar Sync

Will this combination work?

I have read postings but and while all say the you need an 32bit version of Outlook it remains unclear to me if running 64bit Widows 7 will be a problem.

Before I take the plunge and install Office 2010 I want to be sure that calendar sync will continue to function.

Please, please, please make the sync Mac compatible! *desperation*

Phil,

Take a look at this:
https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gappssync It specifically says "Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit)"

hi,
are there any plans to allow google sync to access calendars other than the primary calendar in a gmail account? Thanks

I don't know anything on that front. I have not had that need personally, so I have not researched that one.

Anyone using Google Desktop and Outlook 2010 (64)? It doesn't seem to want to index.

FYI - Google Calendar Sync (v. 0.9.4.0) will only sync Outlook to the primary Google calendar; syncing to a secondary calendar is not available. This topic/issue has been on the forums for almost 2 years and shows no sign of being resolved. If syncing Outlook to a secondary calendar is improtant to you, GSC is not for you.

Mark,

That is a good point. Google Calendar Sync will only sync one Outlook Calendar. I have always maintained just one calendar anyway. I feel the additional element of tagging an event to the proper calendar opens up additional room for error and therefore appointments not showing up.

If I had a very large number of FYI items and needed to have separate calendars, I would handle them strictly through Google Calendar. My homepage is iGoogle with a Google Calendar gadget anyway. It would then display any combination of calendars necessary.

Thanks for stopping by and for the input. I know multiple calendars are important to many people, and you have hit upon a limitation of Google Calendar Sync.
